John is the Clinical Director of Sheffield Physiotherapy. He has over 20 years experience working as a physio and has trained to a high level in both manipulative therapy and acupuncture. He came to Sheffield after qualifying to work at the Northern General Hospital, after five years he went on to work at BMI Thornbury Hospital.
Whilst at Thornbury part of his work was with premier league footballers working with players both at their club and within the hospital. He started working privately in Sheffield in 1998 and in June 2006 moved his practice from Wilkinson Street to its new premises on Ecclesall Road, establishing Sheffield Physiotherapy.
He has a keen interest in the treatment of chronic spinal problems as well as longstanding sports injuries. John is a recognised tutor for the Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists and has been involved in teaching acupuncture courses for physiotherapists throughout Britain. He has also been involved in teaching on postgraduate courses in manipulative therapy at Sheffield Hallam University.
Physiotherapy is an ever developing profession and John enjoys learning about innovative concepts and treatments and is keen to incorporate new ways of helping people recover from injury into his practice.
After completing a sports science degree at Bangor University Owen spent a year working as a fitness instructor and personal trainer.
He then went back to university to pursue a master’s diploma in sports psychology. A year in San Antonio, Texas saw him playing and coaching basketball at a high level.
Returning to Britain, Owen took up an anatomy and physiology lecturer position at Esher Sixth Form College. He has successfully completed his massage qualifications at the London School of Sports Massage and is a member of the Institute of Sport and Remedial Massage.
Owen also gained the prestigious title of structural integrator for the KMI school where he studied under Thomas Myers, James Earls, Lou Benson and Lauren Christman amongst others. He is a member of the International Association of Structural Integrators.
Amber was originally from Christchurch New Zealand before moving to London and more recently Sheffield. She is a Neuromuscular Massage Therapist and has gained her Diploma in Massage Therapy from the Canterbury College of Natural Medicine (CCNM) in New Zealand. She has also qualified with a Post Graduate Certificate in Advanced Sports Massage. While in London she qualified as a Level Three Fitness Instructor.
Amber is passionate about massage and the positive effects that it has on each individual, not only in reducing pain but also in improving posture and the body’s range of movement. She also enjoys seeing the beneficial psychological and emotional effects it can have on the person as a whole.
Amber works with a variety of clientele ranging from elite athletes to those involved in sport at lower levels, but also people outside of sport such as office and construction workers.
Amber likes to keep herself fit and healthy and her hobbies include snowboarding, yoga and surfing.
Lucy graduated with BSc Honours degree in Physiotherapy from Sheffield Hallam University in 2010. She had previously completed a BSc in Anatomy and Cell Biology at the University of Sheffield 1998 and had been working in Genetics before training as a physiotherapist.
Since graduating Lucy has gained clinical physiotherapy experience within the NHS at Bolsover and Walton Hospital and currently at Sheffield Community Intermediate Care Service.
Lucy has always been passionate about health promotion and in 1999 gained the RSA Exercise to Music qualification. During her physiotherapy training Lucy set up a health and wellbeing group as part of Sheffield Care Trust, and taught a number of fitness classes around the city.
After gaining the Holistic Body Massage Certificate 2005, Lucy continued to practice body massage to a number of clients with wide ranging problems such as sports injuries, tendonitis, back pain, post traumatic stress, and fibromyalgia, to name a few.
Lucy continues to develop her manual skills through currently undertaking the Sports Massage Certification. Lucy is passionate about client centred care and believes in a very holistic, both psychological and physiological approach to treatment.
